    The Helgeland Coastal region

    This region extends over more than 200 km; from the North Trøndelag border in the south to the Salten region in the north. The Helgeland coast is a distinctive and tortuous coastal shoreline broken up by many deep fjords that cut into the country. Including islands and fjords, the Helgeland coastline extends to almost 10,000 km.

  • The shoreline

    The shoreline

    Off the shoreline – between us and the ocean – we find spectacular vigorous island communities consisting of thousands of islands, islets and reefs. This makes the area a wonderland for sea kayakers, where long summer days and nights facilitate to combine kayaking with ascent of the bewitching mountain peaks that jut up from the sea.

    From the fjords and out to the outermost islands, the opportunities are favorable for conducting sea kayaking. Within this area, we find challenges for all skill levels. Many of the sites, including those that are a little further out to sea, are suitable for beginners. Other areas demand more skills and seamanship.

  • The coastal Area

    The coastal Area

    Special for the Helgeland coast, there need not be a great distance between these areas. Paddling within the same area, the outer side will demand completely different requirements of the paddler than paddling inshore and in lesser weather-exposed areas. The contents of a trip can largely be determined based on the area chosen, where variation and flexibility is great within a relatively small geographic area.

    Nesna is a central spot for kayaking on the Helgeland coast and select Nesna as a starting point, it gives you a lot of benefits. Within minutes you can be immersed in padleeldoradoet whether you choose the southern, northern or western part. A short transport leg south brings you to the World Heritage site Vega. If you choose to go north, it is not journey to the Arctic Circle.     Nesna is a centre of communications. From Nesna, it is a short drive to the airports in Sandnessjøen, Mosjøen and Mo i Rana. You may of course launch your kayak here; and if not, there is a good comprehensive network of ferries and high-speed catamarans to open up your options for customizing a tour of the region.
