TINDERANGLING TOURS
The coast of Helgeland is by many people known as one of the most beautiful coastlines in Norway. Paddlers often look upon this coastline as a unique and exceptional Eldorado to go seakayaking. As Simon Willis wrote (Ocean Paddler): «A unique set of features makes Helgeland a special place to sea kayak. Sheltered waters, protected from the worst of what the prevailing westerly’s can produce; a series of archipelagos stretching up the coast in which kayakers can find peace, quiet and isolated campsites; larger, mountainous islands with dramatic plunging cliffs and weird tortured rock shapes and all set against a rugged backdrop of grey mountains fringed with permanent Arctic snow. This is the place Norwegian and Swedish sea kayakers have been coming to for years, leaving us Brits to drive further north to Lofoten and Nordkapp».

A coastline with crystal clear waters, many islets and islands, some even with idyllic white beaches makes this area special. All this, surrounded by dramatic land formations, it is no wonder that this is an area full of myths and legends. Mountains like Hestmannen (a man sitting on his horse), Syv Søstre (Seven Sisters), Torghatten (the hat with a hole right through it) and several other mountains, all take part in the fairytale about the “Trolls” at this coastline.

The Tinderangling tours take place in the middle of Helgeland. On this coastal tour, we will take you to some of Helgelands most spectacular areas. In this archipelago, most islands is colonize by different seabird spieces. People only inhabit a handful of the islands.

On this guided tour we try to combine the seakayakadventure with two hiking trips. Both the trips will take you to what`s known as typical coastal mountains. From both peaks, we will have a wonderful view over a number of islands along the coast.

This archipelago gives many options on where to go. We can paddle a route that will take us through sheltered seas or we can choose to paddle more exposed to the weather. The Tinderangling tours will be a combination of these two aspects. Part of the route will be along islands close to shore. In these areas, we can choose to paddle more open, but that will depend on the weather conditions. During the paddle tour we need to do two or three short fjord-crossings (5000m). Touring these “sea of thousands islands” (archipelagos) will make a great contribution to the tour.

Alstahaug – Heroey – Doenna. This Tinderangling 2-tour take place in the south part in middle of Helgeland. From historic point, this is a very interesting area. Even from the Vikings site at Tjoetta to where the Riegel catastrophe took place, many things have happened. This district is where well-known priest and poet Petter Dass during the years 1689 – 1707 was ruling.

West of Alstahaug we find the Heroey archipelago. The southern part of Heroeys archipelago stretches even south to Unescos World Heritage site of Vega (islands). This is one of Helgelands unique “pearls” to go paddling. It`s fascinating to paddle among islands and islets, at sea close to shore.

This tour is a combination of the kayak adventure and two hiking trips. The first hiking trip will take you to one of the peaks at Seven Sisters (Stortinden 910m). Later on the tour will the goal be at some part (peaks) on the Doennamann (616 – 858m)(looks like a face of a man laying with his nose in the air). From both peaks, we will have a wonderful view over a number of islands along the coast.

In front of Tinderangling 2-tour we can do an ordinary seakayak course (4 – 8 – 16 hour) or make a “preparation course” for improving the seakayak rescue skills.
